Official Statement Of ICHR – International Centre for Human Rights, Canada
Iran is in enforced darkness. The internet is shut down. Landlines are cut. A nation of more than 85 million people is being deliberately silenced so that crimes can be committed without witnesses. This is not a technical failure. This is a calculated strategy of repression by a terrorist regime.
History has shown, again and again, that the Islamic Republic and the IRGC use communication blackouts as a prelude to mass arrests, torture, and killings. When the world cannot see, the regime acts with maximum brutality. Silence becomes a weapon. Darkness becomes a shield for state terror.
We state clearly: the people of Iran are in an eminent danger.
They are the victims of an organized system of violence that rules through fear, censorship, and bloodshed. Cutting off the internet and landlines is an act of collective punishment and a crime under international law. It is an attempt to erase voices, erase evidence, and erase human lives.
The people of Iran are not asking for reform. They are demanding revolution. They are demanding the end of a terrorist state that has kidnapped their country, stolen their future, and murdered their sons and daughters for more than 40 years.
A regime that rules by fear, by firing on protesters, by hanging dissidents, and by cutting a nation off from the world is not a government. It is a criminal organization in power.
The world must not look away. Governments, international institutions, technology companies, and human rights bodies must act immediately to restore connectivity, protect civilians, and hold the Islamic Republic and the IRGC accountable for crimes against humanity. Words of concern are no longer enough.
Silence is no longer neutral. Silence is complicity.
ICHR stands with the people of Iran in their fight for freedom, dignity, and a future without terror. We call on the international community to break this imposed darkness, to defend the right to communication, and to take urgent, concrete action to stop the ongoing repression.
The lives of millions depend on it. History will remember who stood with the people, and who stood with their oppressors.
