Toronto, Canada – August 28, 2025 – The International Center for Human Rights (ICHR) has awarded its 2025 Human Rights Award to Mohammad Najafi, a jailed Iranian human rights lawyer.
On the Anniversary of Universal Humanitarian Day, The International Center for Human Rights in Toronto-Canada (ICHR) commemorated another year of fighting for humanity and democracy by announcing it’s annual Award, in recognition of an individual’s outstanding contributions and dedications to the advancement of human rights.
Najafi is widely recognized for his courageous defense of political prisoners and for exposing human rights violations in Iran. Because of his advocacy, he has faced repeated imprisonment, harassment, and the revocation of his law license.
Unable to attend the ceremony due to his imprisonment, the award was accepted on his behalf by Canadian lawyer Mark Arnold.
“Mohammad Najafi’s courage and sacrifice remind us of the ongoing struggle for freedom and justice,” said Ardeshir Zarezadeh, President of ICHR.
