ICHR strongly calls on United Nation for firm loud actions to ensure that the international human rights and humanitarian laws are being implemented, following Russia’s multi-pronged attack on Ukraine.
Armed conflict between the two countries erupted in the early morning on 24 February with the Russian army subjecting Ukrainian military and air bases to a heavy firing rocket artillery, and missile attacks. While the Russian military tank columns were invading the Ukrainian territories along all the borders.
“worlds worst fears are coming to be, after the Russian invasion, that is likely to lead to the most horrifically outrageous consequences for human lives and human rights.” Said; Ardeshir Zarezadeh, Executive Director for ICHR Canada.
“As the bombs and rockets are falling like a rain by the Russian army, ICHR strongly recalls on all parties and UN to ensure the international humanitarian laws and the international human rights are being strictly abided.” Added; Ardeshir Zarezadeh, Executive Director for ICHR Canada.
“Civilian lives, and their homes must be protected, indiscriminate attacks, the use of prohibited weapons, and any kind of violence must not take place. We also firmly call to allow and facilitate access for humanitarian agencies to provide assistance to civilians affected by the hostilities.” Added Ardeshir Zarezadeh, Executive Director for ICHR Canada.
Russia has launched an invasion on Ukraine, with reports of troops crossing the borders, explosions in multiple cities including the capital Kyiv. Deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian property, and attacks that kill or injure civilians constitute war crimes.
The world has previously Witnessed the devastating human rights risks of armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, including threats to civilian lives, livelihoods and infrastructure, outrageous food shortages and mass displacement. As the world stood by and documented the severe human rights violations of the 2014-2015 conflict in eastern Ukraine, in which war crimes and crimes against humanity were horrific.
The world can not allow the same outrageous war crimes to continue now. That been said; ICHR strongly calls on all parties and United Nation to ensure that the international human rights and humanitarian laws are being implemented, following Russia’s multi-pronged attack on Ukraine.
