ICHR strongly stands in solidarity with the thirsty people of Khuzestan and firmly condemns the repression, persecution and killing of the people whom are seeking water. The United Nations must take serious actions to pressure the Iranian authorities to allow the public to express their criticism without the risk of violence or the threat of imprisonment, and death.
Iran is facing the biggest drought crisis. Due to the widespread mismanagement and corruption of the anti-people government officials in the economic and environmental spheres, and the illegal imprisonments of environmental activists, have exacerbated the crisis.
Less than a week after the beginning of the protests of the people of Khuzestan against the lack of water and electricity, the anti-people government of the Islamic Republic shot dead the children of Iran by firing directly at the oppressed protesters.
Demonstrations have been reported in several cities in Khuzestan, including Ahvaz, Shush, Susangard, Kut Abdullah, Seyed Naeem, Shadegan, Hamidiyeh and Karkheh.
“The killing of dissent by security forces during the protests of the people of Khuzestan’s famine-stricken province must be condemned by the United Nations and the international community. Motorcyclist security thugs have responded to the Iranians’ request for basic rights such as water and electricity with bullets.” Said; Daryanaz Shirinkam Communication Director At ICHR.
“The United Nations must take immediate action to pressure the Iranian authorities to allow the public to express their criticism without violence or the threat of imprisonment and death, in order to prevent a repeat of the November2019 events in which led to the massacre of demonstrators.” Said; Ardeshir Zarezadeh Director At ICHR.
“Most of the videos shared on social networks the sound of security guards firing on people on motorcycles is clearly heard.” Added; Ardeshir Zarezadeh Director At ICHR.
Human dignity is a vital principle in international human rights laws which is based on principles such as equality, freedom and the right to development, security and protection of the fundamental rights of individuals and the quality of life and economic and social well-being.
The dark history of the Islamic Republic in recognizing human rights and respecting dignity of individuals, such as killing, and persecuting and lack of social freedoms and depriving human beings of equal rights because of their beliefs has raised and become a very known knowledge worldwide.
ICHR strongly stands in solidarity with the protesting people of Khuzestan until the last moment and will not hesitate for a moment to bring their voice to the world. And demands the immediate and unconditional release of the detainees of the protests, and the prosecution of the perpetrators of the killing of the protesting people of Khuzestan.
ICHR also calls on the international community to condemn the government of Iran for repression, persecution and killing of the thirsty people of Khuzestan whom are seeking their basic rights (water), in the International Criminal Court and the UN Security Council, considering the dark record of the Islamic Republic in repeated human rights abuses.
