ICHR strongly calls on the government of Iran to stop violating its own laws and immediately transfer Moore-Gilbert, to the Women’s Ward and allow her unrestricted access to independent medical treatment & counsel.
ICHR also urges the Australian and British governments to immediately take actions to release Moore-Gilbert’s from Iran to prevent her from suffering further.
Kylie Moore Gilbert is an Islamic professor at Melbourne University in Australia, who went to Iran in the fall of 1397 for marketing and was sentenced by the Islamic Republic government to ten years in prison.
Since Kylie Moore-Gilbert’s convection in 2018, she has been imprisoned in small temporary holding cell under inhuman conditions, and she has repeatedly attempted Suicide, that puts her in immediate danger.
“Kylie has been pleading for help for the past 2 years, as she has been suffering, and is at harms way by being under Unlawful Confinement and being denied her basic Human Rights. The Australian government should immediately seek her access to basic rights that the Iranian government has been denying her, and get her back home where she belongs.” Said Ardeshir Zarezadeh, Executive Director of ICHR.
The news about Kylie Moore-Gilbert’s repeatedly committing suicide was made public via a Facebook posting by Reza Khandan, a Tehran-based human rights activist and the husband of imprisoned human rights attorney Nasrin Sotoudeh.
It’s not clear how she has attempted suicide, and her health conditions are not known as well. She’s being held in horrible, unbearable, and inhuman conditions being denied all contacts, and also denied being transferred to the women’s ward, according to the reports.
According to Iranian law, prisoners can only be held in isolation during the interrogation and investigation phases of their cases and should be transferred to long-term wards after they’ve been sentenced. Yet Moore-Gilbert is unlawfully Isolated in small Cell, under inhuman conditions, and Blindfolded When Taken Out for the past 2years.
Until today the government of Iran has not explained why Moore-Gilbert is been denied her right to be moved to the general women’s ward of Evin Prison and instead been isolated in a temporary holding cell which, was not designed for prolonged detention and could drive a person insane.
There is an immediate concerns due to inhuman way she’s being treated and denied from having all contact, this only confirms that the government of Iran is trying to prevent her from revealing information that could implicate themselves.” Said Ardeshir Zarezadeh, Executive Director of ICHR.
